We have set the date for our ‘Girls Time Out Voyage’. This will be a good one. Maybe you should get some friends together and book this voyage up for yourself?!  This voyage is in spring which is in between the sports seasons so you will be able to find time to get away a bit easier! The days are settled and getting a bit longer (maybe a bit chilly) and then you have the nice long evenings to chill out, yarn etc etc in the salloon of Elwing, kept warm by the heat of the diesel fireplace.  Give it some thought, you deserve it, come aboard with us and take a breather!!

We have a Primary School Voyage coming up…

We have a Primary School Voyage coming up and the ‘big brother’ thought it wasn’t fair his little sister was going to Stewart Island before him so he went to our website calendar and has found a voyage suitable for him – and a way for him to voyage at Stewart Island with adventurers of his own age!

New trip calendar, Dept. of Conservation Concession for Paterson Inlet | Stewart Island

Port Pegasus, Stewart Island, New Zealand

Port Pegasus

We’ve just added an upcoming voyages calendar and side-bar to this site. The idea being to make it obvious which adventure voyages are to where and when, and for whom.

Due to the visual nature of the layout, gaps which represent opportunities for ‘custom’ voyages, show up easily.

To accommodate the calendar style, we’ve redone the navigation to illustrate the relationships between voyage options and explanations of same.

Also recently Elwing Discoveries gained a Concession to operate on Dept. of Conservation land [Rakiura National Park], bordering the sea in the following areas, many of which have a distinct wilderness flavour:

  • Stewart Island: Paterson Inlet, Port Adventure, Port Pegasus, and Southern Coastal areas. These include literally hundreds of anchorages such as  Rakiura Track, Port William, Port Adventure, Lords River and in Paterson Inlet: North Arm and Ulva Island Bird Sanctuary, Ocean Beach, Fred’s Camp, The [Norwegian] Whalers Base near Miller’s Beach, Maori Beach, Christmas Village, Bravo Island and Pryse Peak.

Being just a small selection of what is possible!

Of significance to guests on Elwing is that as a Dept. of Conservation Concessionaire, Elwing’s crew, for example skipper and 1st mate, can guide and accompany trips on-shore, thus enriching the experience with local knowledge and interpretation.

Many of the above potential destinations are well within the scope of Elwing’s new overnight Stewart Island accommodation package – a distinct and unique way to spend the night on a mild and interesting adventure!
