Elwing and her fellow travellers are not long back from an amazing adventure at Port Pegasus Stewart Island! This time the people on board didn’t climb the mountains (they did that last time they came away to Pegasus on board Elwing!) they explored the paths and ways of the early settlement at Port Pegasus. The weather was as you might expect in the rain forest of Stewart Island – rainy some part of the day, most days . . . HOWEVER , this doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the peace and tranquility of this southern port of Stewart Island. Don’t be mislead either – Port Pegasus is the wilderness, serious wilderness! There is an amazing amount of activity you can enjoy – contact us to find out when we might be heading south to Port Pegasus in Elwing again!
We have an expedition coming up in April for people who like adventure, who like to go somewhere different. Come to Port Pegasus, Stewart Island with us. Voyage with us down the coast to Port Pegasus, explore, fish, climb hills – maybe Gog and Magog?, then helicopter back to Invercargill viewing the stunning Stewart Island scenery on the way. Accommodation, gst & food included in the voyage! Great views, great company, great adventure! 3-9 April 2011 Contact us!
We’ve just added an upcoming voyages calendar and side-bar to this site. The idea being to make it obvious which adventure voyages are to where and when, and for whom.
Due to the visual nature of the layout, gaps which represent opportunities for ‘custom’ voyages, show up easily.
To accommodate the calendar style, we’ve redone the navigation to illustrate the relationships between voyage options and explanations of same.
Also recently Elwing Discoveries gained a Concession to operate on Dept. of Conservation land [Rakiura National Park], bordering the sea in the following areas, many of which have a distinct wilderness flavour:
- Stewart Island: Paterson Inlet, Port Adventure, Port Pegasus, and Southern Coastal areas. These include literally hundreds of anchorages such as Rakiura Track, Port William, Port Adventure, Lords River and in Paterson Inlet: North Arm and Ulva Island Bird Sanctuary, Ocean Beach, Fred’s Camp, The [Norwegian] Whalers Base near Miller’s Beach, Maori Beach, Christmas Village, Bravo Island and Pryse Peak.
Being just a small selection of what is possible!
Of significance to guests on Elwing is that as a Dept. of Conservation Concessionaire, Elwing’s crew, for example skipper and 1st mate, can guide and accompany trips on-shore, thus enriching the experience with local knowledge and interpretation.
Many of the above potential destinations are well within the scope of Elwing’s new overnight Stewart Island accommodation package – a distinct and unique way to spend the night on a mild and interesting adventure!
Our full 12 month calendar has been uploaded today. Upcoming Voyages page taking us through to the end of Jan. 2011 and then other voyages as listed in the calendar. PLEASE NOTE: These dates are not necessarily fixed in concrete – contact us if you have ideas or other requests.
Elwing is just back from yet another visit to Port Pegasus, at the southern end of Stewart Island. Come aboard Elwing on her next Pegasus Adventure Expedition – 3-9 April 2011. Contact us for the details.
