Early. Mid and Late Teens School Holiday Trips

Early Teens Adventurer – approx. 11-13 year old, for 5 days: These Entry Level Holiday Adventures are experienced in Paterson Inlet at Stewart Island, and a number of interesting landings ashore can be made according to weather and sea conditions. Various historical and natural history sites can be visited inc. The Whalers Base, and the Ulva Island Bird Sanctuary.

Mid Teens Adventurer – approx. 13-15 year old for 5 days: This Holiday Adventure is at a more demanding level than our above trips for 11-13 year olds. The experiences from a possible earlier trip will be built on.

Weather permitting, the voyage may incorporate coastal voyages to the north and/or south of Paterson Inlet – eg to Port William, Port Adventure. These voyages are specifically geared towards this age group. The youngsters work well together and help the skipper with the running of the vessel.

Late Teens Advanced Adventurers – approx. 16 year old +, for 6 days: Stewart Island – Adventure Expedition to Port Adventure & Port Pegasus: This is a tailormade programme at a level to suit young adults looking for an Adventure Expedition. They may have been on a previous voyage of ours or they may be new to adventure expeditions aboard Elwing. Voyagees may, complete the Dayskipper Certificate Course or the VHF Radio Operator Certificate during the voyage. (NZQA 26542 and 19491).. more details >>

School Voyages

School Voyages are planned events through individual schools. These voyages are often during High School Year 9 or 10 camp weeks. Ten students elect to come aboard Elwing for one of our five day voyages.  These voyages are run in conjunction with CBES and the students will work through the Day Skipper Experience course in an informal way during the voyage.

Overnight trips – Stewart Island

We have scheduled a number of ‘Accommodation and Adventure Voyages’ into our calendar. These voyages are for anyone who would like to spend some time experiencing the  Stewart Island wilderness – You come aboard Elwing in the morning – 10.30 am (after arrival of Real Journeys ferry at Stewart Island – 11.00 am), you voyage aboard Elwing – also you may sail, kayak,  explore weather permitting during this time. You will eat and sleep aboard Elwing in a secluded anchorage. In the morning you will have some time for some meandering through the waters of Paterson Inlet. You will then leave Elwing to continue your travels at 10.30 am.  These times are negotiable so if you are keen for something different do be in touch with us and we can work something out specifically for you! elwing@clear.net.nz

Adult Adventure Expeditions

These expeditions are one-off opportunities for you to come aboard and experience you own expedition and adventure. We have some dates marked in our calendar which are specific adventures however if these Stewart Island Expeditions are not for you then contact us with your ideas and we can make it work for you! elwing@clear.net.nz

Girls Time Out Voyages

These voyages are an opportunity for ‘the girls’ to get together, come aboard Elwing, explore Paterson Inlet, both aboard Elwing and ashore – you can explore while paddling our kayaks, or have us take you ashore in the many places we can go as approved DOC concessionaires. You can walk a part of the Rakiura Track if you like and we can pick you up after your day’s walk and give you dinner, take you to a secluded anchorage where you can sit aboard Elwing, relaxing in the salloon – always cosy with the diesel fire place running to keep everyone warm!  Our calendar have a Girls time Out Voyage marked in June – winter is good at Stewart Island – Cold but settled and long evenings to allow you to chill out and relax with your friends. If June is not suitable for you, come to us and we can work out a date to suit you. elwing@clear.net.nz

Coastguard Boating Education Courses

We are registered providers of the CBES courses – Dayskipper Certificate and VHF Radio Operator Certificate. You can do these courses with us while living aboard Elwing or you can organise a date and time for us to run the course(s) for you in your own town.

Family Adventures / Senior Adventures

Families organise to come aboard with us when they have a special occasion to celebrate – birthday, anniversary etc etc. Families, senior adventurers  also come aboard when they want to have a holiday with a difference! Arthur is the master of family fun!, at the right stage and level for you!  He knows the best places to do the most fun things which are just a bit different!, plus you will be in the wilderness! Party Deliveries  - (Hunting Parties, family groups, other groups – eg scouts etc)

Elwing can take you and your group to your chosen destination, leave you there for your chosen amount of time – this might be one week, or just a weekend. We can take a maximum of 22 people within Paterson Inlet/Port William area and we can take up to 8 as far south as Lords River. We can take you in to Port Adventure, Port William and beyond.
