Elwing Discoveries operates in association with Coastguard Boating Education Service New Zealand. Both Arthur and Barbara are Accredited Tutors and incorporate Safe Boating Education with all the youth adventures.
This Safe Boating Education comes in various forms – for the young ones there is ‘Junior Safeboating Certificate’, for Year 7 – 13 there is the opportunity to participate in the ‘Dayskipper Experience Certificate’. This is a totally practical experience with safeboating practice being the focus. Beyond this is the Coastguard Dayskipper Certificate. This certificate is an academic course for any person who has to do with boating. It covers a wide range of safeboating issues. If you are interested in this course do look at the Coastguard Boating Education website to find out which course is suitable for you. If you have senior students interested in the Dayskipper Certificate this course is available on the NZQA framework and is eligible for STAR Funding. This is useful to know because it an help considerably with the cost to the young people.
