Combined Schools Dayskipper Certificate Voyage

Year 11-13 Students – Unit Std 26542 – 6 x Level 2 Credits

19-24 June 2011

Imagine living on a large yacht!   Travel from bay to bay, exploring rivers, hideaway coves.  Experience remote reefs and sandy shores.  Paddle kayaks up hidden creeks through the bush.  Develop teamwork and leadership skills during all activities, PLUS extend  your ‘Safe Boating Knowledge’ by completing the CBES (Coastguard Boating Education Service) Dayskipper Certificate and at the same time adding to your academic qualifications with Unit Standard credits.

As well as true adventure this trip will help to enhance our appreciation of the environment, help us learn  how to look after it and enjoy it to its full. Voyagees, with the aid of Arthur, the skipper, will raise and lower sails, sail to a new anchorage each night.  At the end of the day  they will sit around and fill in their logs to recapture the adventures of the day.  This tailor-made programme for senior adventurers  will be an amazing, fulfilling and educational  experience  in this unique part of New Zealand.

The cost of this course per student  is $585.00 all inclusive from Bluff.  This includes all ‘Coastguard Boating Education Service’ (CBES)  exam fees, student manual, ferry, voyage aboard Elwing, food and GST. You organise your own travel to and from Bluff.  There are ten berths available on this voyage.  If you would like to reserve a berth(s) please be in touch –  to receive the ‘Registration Package’. There will be two forms in this package which will need to be filled in and returned to us  along with $100.00 as deposit. Balance of payment  is due by  10 June 2011

Participants will  meet at the Bluff Real Journeys Ferry Terminal by your own arrangement on

Sunday  19 June  2011  at 4.00 pm sharp where they will be met by Arthur, the skipper of Elwing.  They will travel together on board the Real Journeys ferry  to Stewart Island where they will board Elwing and begin the academic side of  their Stewart Island Adventure. During the week the group will complete the academic side of the course plus they will adventure aboard Elwing while continuing to experience and practice their newfound knowledge and skills from the course.   After their exciting adventure at Stewart Island the adventurers will travel again with Arthur aboard the Foveaux Express, back to Bluff, arriving at 4.00 pm on Friday 24 June  2011. They will then travel home, again by their own arrangement.

As mentioned above, if you are interested in reserving a berth (either school or individual) please be in touch  and we will forward you the Registration Package ‘paperwork’ which you then fill in and return along with the $100.00 deposit. We look forward to hearing from you!
